Anthropic has unveiled Claude for Education, a new AI plan tailored for higher education — a direct response to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu. The offering provides students, faculty, and staff with access to Claude, Anthropic’s advanced chatbot, now enhanced with a unique Learning Mode. Learning Mode promotes critical thinking by guiding students with questions, highlighting core concepts, and offering research templates and study tools. It shifts AI from an answer machine to a learning companion. Norwegian startup 1X plans to begin early home trials of its humanoid robot Neo Gamma in thousands of homes by late 2025, according to CEO Bernt Ørnich at NVIDIA’s GTC 2025. While Neo Gamma uses AI for walking and balance, it’s not yet fully autonomous. To enable these trials, 1X will rely on remote teleoperators who can see through Neo’s sensors and control its limbs in real time. Ørnich emphasized the goal of having the robot “live and learn among people,” using real-world data to improve internal AI models. Despite OpenAI’s backing, 1X develops most of its core AI in-house, with occasional collaborations involving OpenAI and NVIDIA. Neo Gamma, first revealed in February, features an upgraded onboard AI and a soft nylon suit designed to reduce injury risk during human interaction. Figure has unveiled BotQ, its new high-volume facility for manufacturing humanoid robots, with an initial capacity of 12,000 units per year. BotQ reflects a vertically integrated approach, with custom-built infrastructure, internal supply chain, and proprietary Manufacturing Execution Software (MES). To ensure scalability, Figure redesigned its next-gen robot, Figure 03, switching from CNC machining to high-speed methods like injection molding and diecasting. The company is also introducing robots building robots, using its own humanoids for tasks like assembly and battery testing. With a hybrid workforce and AI system Helix, Figure is aiming for fully autonomous production lines. Cloudflare's AI Labyrinth is a new opt-in feature that uses AI-generated decoy pages to confuse and slow down AI bots that ignore “no crawl” rules. Instead of blocking suspicious bots, it redirects them into a maze of realistic but irrelevant content, wasting their time and compute resources. These hidden links are invisible to real users and search engines, but bots will follow them—revealing themselves. The activity is then logged and fed into Cloudflare’s machine learning models to improve bot detection for all users. AI Labyrinth is available to all Cloudflare plans, including Free. Anthropic’s Claude chatbot now supports web search, a long-awaited feature that puts it on par with AI rivals like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Le Chat. Web search is enabled through the Claude 3.7 Sonnet model and can be toggled in profile settings. OpenAI has released o1-pro, a more advanced version of its o1 reasoning model, now available in the developer API. Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has acquired Hotshot, a San Francisco-based startup specializing in AI-powered video generation, similar to OpenAI’s Sora. Hotshot CEO Aakash Sastry confirmed the acquisition on X, revealing that the company has built three video foundation models—Hotshot-XL, Hotshot Act One, and Hotshot—and will now scale its efforts on xAI’s massive Colossus cluster. Before its acquisition, Hotshot pivoted from AI-powered photo editing to text-to-video models and secured funding from Lachy Groom, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and SV Angel. Microsoft is actively developing its own language models under the leadership of Mustafa Suleyman, the "CEO of AI."
